Since its inception in 2021, Vwaza Multimedia has worked tirelessly toward its vision to become the digital heartbeat of Africa’s music scene. We created a robust web platform where thousands of artists shared their music to an audience across Africa and Europe that was eager to experience their art. Through this journey, we learnt that how people experience music is dynamic. The pulse of music courses through the streets, is part of our daily commutes, and is a friendly companion in the mundane moments that form the crust of our lives. It is this dynamism that informed our latest invention, the Vwaza App, which we announced on our social media platforms yesterday. We believe the long-awaited launch of the Vwaza Music Mobile App is a fundamental shift in our audience’s experience of Vwaza Music, transitioning from a destination they visited to a companion they carry through life.

What’s Different?
After an eventful and successful 2025, where we exclusively premiered Lawi’s My Father’s Land album, hosted a Showcase, trained and onboarded artists from Dzaleka Refugee Camp, and hosted several Music Business Education sessions, we consolidated and analysed the data we got: who listens to our music, where they are, what they like, how old they are… All of that data informed this new Vwaza experience.

If you ask Joel Fickson Ngozo, the Vwaza Founder and CEO, he’ll tell you that the Vwaza Music App is built to reflect leading music consumption trends. “Modern listeners want platforms that see them. They want their apps to understand their music taste, and to keep giving them more of it – for their music to find them. This is why our app has pillars that reflect and honor these very desires.”

He explained the new Pulse feature, which is an Intelligent Engine that utilizes intelligent processing to analyze listening habits and bridge them with global trends and specific locations, thus removing the manual labor of finding music. Think of it as a smart engine that maps your musical narrative; like a background that listens to you.

Another new feature is Connect, which is a human-led discovery which functions as the social heartbeat of Vwaza Music. For so long, corporate entities and music apps have dictated playlists on its listeners, but this new feature allows users to discover music through the ears of people who share their taste. It is a powerful shift toward organic, community-led music discovery.

While our web platform remains the gold standard for management and deep browsing, the mobile app is built for *living*. We have bridged the ecosystem to ensure that everything you love about the Vwaza web experience now carries mobile-exclusive power. This is one of our creations to ensure that Vwaza users will get to experience authentic African entertainment from anywhere, at any time.

Shifting the Industry: A New Economic Narrative
The Malawian music industry is at a crossroads where creator empowerment is often stifled by traditional subscription tiers and intrusive ads. Vwaza Multimedia is taking an unconventional stand to protect the artist and the listener alike.

This year, Vwaza Multimedia is digging its heels to embody “Power To The People” as a slogan thatnot only guides our activities and interactions with artists and audience at large, but is also at the heart of the infrastructure that we develop. Last year, we empowered creators to set their own prices and allow users to support them directly. This year, we take a step further by making it easy for users to access music easily, thus directly fueling the underfunded music industry and creator economy.

Are You Game?
The Vwaza Music App is our re-imagination of the Sounds of Africa for a life on the move. It is our first bold step towards a brand so deep and rich that it feels both modern and grounded. We invite you to this new journey… to the side of life where platforms are intelligent, and ecosystems are community-driven and designed for the modern African listener.
