FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lilongwe, Malawi - Vwaza Multimedia, a leading music distribution platform and music digital store dedicated to showcasing authentic and original African entertainment, will be the exclusive distributor of Lawi’s My Father’s Land album, set for release on the 27th of September, 2025. The announcement was made during an intimate commemorative event at Lilongwe City's Havilah Park on Wednesday the 23rd. The event also served as a commemorative gathering where a Music Distribution Agreement between Lawi and Vwaza Multimedia was formalised. It was patronised by members of the press and artists signed under the Vwaza brand.

While addressing the media, Lawi, a renowned Malawian musician, explained that his partnership with Vwaza was about exporting Malawian businesses and giving them the support they need. “Just because something is new, does not make it less irrelevant just because there are other well-known things.” “Electric vehicles were once a concept, but now we can see them on the roads in Malawi. It took somebody who believed in that vision to put those cars on our roads, and I too, am taking that risk for Malawi through Vwaza.”

Lawi also went on to explain how the new partnership sets a new precedent for Malawian music and the music business. He said, “I'm excited because our young people have fresh minds and a drive that can carry us into the future. As an artist that values quality and professionalism, I took my time creating this body of work. Releasing it exclusively on Vwaza means I support their mission and feel they are a great partner in the direction I'm taking, which is of more ownership over my intellectual property; how I distribute it and how much revenue I can make from it.”

Commenting on the development, Pokani Kaunda, Vwaza’s Artist Relationship Manager, said, “We are excited for this partnership because it proves why a platform like ours exists - to turn the craftsmanship of local music artists into revenue that can help them achieve their goals, scale their music careers, and invest further in themselves. We look forward to more sign ups from different kinds of artists. We are here to make sure you are heard, differently and empowered in the process.”

In a separate interview, Joel Ngozo, the Vwaza Multimedia Founder and CEO, was hopeful for the new opportunities his brand’s partnership with Lawi would bring.

“It's not everyday that we hear of Malawian artists releasing their music exclusively on Malawian distribution platforms. Being entrusted with a project as big and established as Lawi’s is no mere feat. I feel encouraged to do more, and I hope the Vwaza App can become home to Malawian artists of all levels. I truly believe it can be a gateway to exporting Malawian music to the African continent and beyond.”

The collaboration between Lawi and Vwaza Multimedia is a strategic move that is expected to usher in a new era for Malawi's music distribution, ensuring that both local music and the digital platforms that are developed in support of its growth, are experienced internationally. It is a timely development that comes as Malawi is working towards developing its digital infrastructure, international culture exchange, and its creator economy.
